Project Overview
Resurfacing Contractors Ltd successfully completed a £150,000 commercial asphalt surfacing project at a hospital in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.
Covering approximately 1,007 m², the project involved resurfacing existing hospital access roads and constructing a new tarmac car parking area.
Working within a busy hospital environment, our experienced team used specialist road planing machinery and machine-laid asphalt to deliver a durable, high-quality finish suitable for regular vehicle traffic.
Road Resurfacing Works
The existing hospital roadway was mechanically planed to a depth of 40 mm, removing the worn asphalt surface.
Following thorough cleaning and preparation, a bitumen tack coat was applied to promote adhesion before installing a new 40 mm Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) surface course.
The asphalt was machine-laid and compacted to provide a consistent, long-lasting finish across the roadway.
Car Park Construction
Alongside the road resurfacing, our team undertook the construction of a new asphalt car parking area.
Works included:
- Excavation to a depth of approximately 300 mm.
- Installation of new concrete edging kerbs.
- Supply, installation and compaction of 200 mm MOT Type 1 sub-base.
- Installation of 60 mm AC20 asphalt binder course.
- Machine laying and compaction of 40 mm 10 mm SMA surface course.
This construction provided a robust pavement suitable for regular vehicle use.
Working Within a Live Hospital Environment
The project required careful planning and coordination to minimise disruption to the hospital’s daily operations.
Our team carried out the resurfacing works using specialist equipment, including road planers, asphalt paving machinery and compaction rollers.
The completed works provide improved access roads and a newly constructed car parking surface, delivering a professional finish throughout.
